A Birthday Celebration

Our little EV turned 1 in January, and in the month(s) leading up to the big day the hubby and I were going back and forth on the best approach for a toddler party in the winter. We opted for a rooftop setting in our neighborhood with a dedicated space for an infant and toddler play area. And while most of the attendees were family and friends, we knew there would be plenty of running around involved and made sure to dress appropriately.

Not only did we have fun celebrating EV’s first, we were equally as excited to party with her BK friends who were also turning 1.

Although this winter has been frightfully cold in NY, we had a great day celebrating with our loved ones.

Make sure to check out our shop page for links to the outfits found in this post!

Brooklyn, Bergen, Breakfast

Brooklyn, Bergen, Breakfast (no more brunch for us)

Absolutely love my Sunday’s with the family.  We live off of the Bergen Street F train stop in Brooklyn and one of our favorite activities to do as a new family is to stroll through the neighborhood bumping into friends and stopping into our favorite stores.  The weather this past Sunday was pretty mild compared to the artic freeze we’ve been experiencing this month in NY.  On this milder day, I paired my Nike Tech Fleece Poncho (an item in my closet I don’t wear quite enough) with my favorite printed leggings and duck boots.

BTW —Estee turns one in January – where did the time go?

Sale Alert – Great Rag & Bone Deals!

Hi there, just wanted to do a quick post to tell you about the amazing shopping deal that I just scored!  We all know that I’m a huge fan of Rag & Bone and especially love their boots (seen here and here).  I’ve had both the Moto Boot and Kinsey Boot for almost two years now and I wear them more often than I would like to admit.  The key selling points for me are that I can walk in them all day and feel comfortable, yet put together.  Also they can be worn year round and look great with casual dresses, leather pants, jeans…basically everything.

So now on to the great deal — my amazing boyfriend bought me this Harrow Boot for my birthday as they had been on my wish list for a while.  I happened to drop into the Rag & Bone store on Sunday and realized that they had since gone on sale!  I called their customer service yesterday and they were happy to do a price adjustment for me, and from there I realized that another pair of shoes that I loved were on sale for pretty close to the difference in price to the original purchase.  Immediately I called my local store and put the Wyatt Sandal on hold and dropped in to pick them up.  Basically a 2 for 1 deal that I could not resist!

So remember continue shopping and researching items that you have recently purchased because you never know when a good deal can come your way.  It has been a very happy birthday indeed :-)

Check out the Rag & Bone site for more sale items.  Also, shop my favorites here: Harrow BootWyatt Sandal, Moto Boot, and Kinsey Boot.  Don’t forget to use our links and happy shopping!  At these prices it’s worth making a purchase…you wont regret it.

Fall Traditions

One of the things that I love about living in New York is experiencing the change in seasons.  Fall has recently taken the lead as my favorite time of year and I’ve been keeping busy savoring every moment because we all know what comes shortly after.  There is something amazing about the crisp air, leaves on the trees, and festive fall traditions like traveling a short way out of the city to go apple picking.

Fall also marks a major yearly fashion transition.  There is nothing better than the ease of boots, jeans, and sweaters. Its also the perfect time to experiment with outerwear. This look includes a few new finds that I can’t get enough of.  The first being this Endless Rose Poncho that I came across on Shopbop.  Its the perfect weight and the colors scream fall.  The price also happens to be just right making it a low investment piece that people will take notice of.  These FRAME denim jeans have quickly taken over as my favorites and I cant wait to get my hands on another pair.  The fit and material quality is incredible and I have a feeling FRAME will be the next big brand in denim.  Lastly I’ve picked up a few IRO tees that I’ve been living in.  I’m a fan of the distressed style that gives off a more casual vibe but the linen material ensures a polished look.  These have a lot more longevity than cotton tees that quickly lose their shape and discolor.

These photos were taken at Barton Orchards which I like to call a Fall wonderland, located in Poughquag NY just a couple of hours from the city.  The farm is beautiful with endless things to do and we had a perfect day drinking apple cidar, checking out the goats and alpacas, eating apple cidar donuts, navigating through the pumpkin patch, and picking apples.

Corrie’s Current Sneaker Rotation – October 2014

Apologies as its been awhile since my last post on my current shoe rotation. I promise to get better at it as my collection evolves frequently. This month, my kicks have been put to good use – from a Tough Mudder to a Color Run to neighborhood strolls in Cobble Hill, it’s definitely the perfect time to highlight a few of my favorites this season.

1. Nike Women’s Air Max 1 Breathe (similar)

One of my favorite shoes of the season – the Nike Women Air Max 1 breathe. It’s a modern take on a classic shoe. With its lightweight material (breathable mesh), bold color scheme and soft heel features, the Nike Air Max 1 is the perfect fit for city living. Loving the tribal green!

2. Nike Roshe Run Woven

A casual play off of the popular Roshe. I love this shoe because its versatile and complements multiple looks – from the office to casual weekend wear. I have a pair in red, gray and black.

3.  Nike Zoom Vomero 9

I seriously cannot get enough of the Nike Zoom Vomero 9- this is my 3rd pair in the last two years.  It’s the only shoe I will run in – –  mostly because of the fit. My feet tend to lean towards  the wider side and the Vomero is the  ideal shoe for long distance runs and extreme workouts.

Fall Maxi

photo 8

For me the term maxi dress was usually defined as a summer fashion staple until I came across this amazing buttoned lace maxi. Paired with a black tank dress and wedge heels, the maxi dress or skirt are a must have for your Fall wardrobe.

This sheer and flattering cut makes it perfect for layering over any look from head to toe – denim, leggings etc. Its also an outfit you can take from day to night.

It’s the ideal  piece for the boho chic girl.

Later that night…

Currently Obsessed Food: Blue Apron

If you don’t already know about Blue Apron then I’m just going to go ahead right now and say “you’re welcome”.  When my boyfriend and I moved in together back in April, Blue Apron was the first purchase I made.  Yes a meal  delivery service and not a piece of furniture was the first thing that I bought.  Crazy I know but it really has made cohabitation that much easier!

Blue Apron comes down to 4 simple things:  Original Recipes, Fresh Ingredients, Flexible Plans, and Convenient Delivery.  The recipes are easy to follow, 500-700 calories per serving, and repeatable since you are left with the printed recipe cards to save and reference later.  The ingredients always arrive fresh and are pre-portioned to reduce waste and save you time searching for that rare and hard to find ingredient in the grocery store.

Blue Apron recommends meals based on the preferences that you select and you can adjust your plan to weekly, bi-weekly, or at random based on your schedule.  The ingredients are delivered to your door in a refrigerated box so it’s as simple as setting up your account and then coming home to a delivery to enjoy.  It’s $9.99 per person per meal, so for us this works out to $59.95 per week for 3 meals that serve 2.  This beats out any trip I’ve ever made to Whole Foods by far.

Blue Apron does require some work so be prepared to chop, prep, and cook.  We’re definitely learning and expanding on our cooking knowledge :-)

Here are some favorites from the past few months – Chicken Thighs with Caramelized Fennel & Onions & Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, Harissa-Spiced Lamb Burger with Roasted Carrot Fries, Filipino-Style Beef Picadillo & Jasmine Rice, and Pan-Seared Salmon Over Whole Wheat Israeli Couscous.

And now for the best part, leave a comment on this post for a chance to win a free week of Blue Apron meals. Include your name and email address for a chance to win. Click here to see if your home falls within the Blue Apron delivery zone (they ship to 80% of the U.S.).  Happy cooking and eating!

Our First Road Trip

When planning our first summer with Estee we knew that we wanted to explore new destinations as a family and include all modes of travel.

One of those places on our list was the Outerbanks, NC.  We announced our pregnancy around the same time last year in Charleston,SC (check out post here), and thought it would be exciting to travel to the other side of the Carolinas.  While many families rent homes throughout the OBX, we decided to check out The Sanderling Resort in Duck, NC for a long weekend.

Approximately 8 hours by car from Brooklyn, The Sanderling was an amazing beachfront property with multiple pools, tennis courts, restaurants and spa.  Its also within driving distance to local shopping and dining.

Take a look at the scenic views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Currituck Sound…and of course our little angel.

His Suit Bespoke

I think that we can all agree there is something very sexy about a man in a well fitted suit. While it’s easy to buy “off the rack”, it’s very much a rite of passage for the well-dressed man to go bespoke.  My man recently rewarded himself after getting a new job with a new bespoke suit.  I tagged along and learned that getting a custom made suit is both about the experience as well as the finished product. IMG_3744 2 IMG_3634 IMG_3671 IMG_3649

Sebastien Grey is located on 24th street in Chelsea between 6th and 7th avenues and is by appointment only. The vibe is very much English Sartorial, perhaps why it’s the go-to tailor for my boyfriend a native Englishman.  Once in the consultation you can choose every aspect of the suit before going for the all-important measurements. IMG_3602 IMG_3605 IMG_3615 IMG_3626 IMG_3643 IMG_3644

First we selected a fabric from many different options and price points.  Of course my advice was key here and who are we kidding A.P.S has been dying to make his debut on CORRIEGABS so he was more than willing to cooperate!  After this, every conceivable detail of the suit is discussed from button holes, monograms, venting, pocket detailing and lining. Sebastian Grey has a multitude of choices that are made in the relaxing environment at the rear of the shop with its Union Jacks, homages to Savile Row (the Mecca of bespoke tailoring in London), and the suiting heyday of Madmen.  Post consultation an expert tailor takes all the necessary measurements to ensure the perfect fit. From here the suit takes approximately 3-4 weeks to be constructed and a second appointment is made for the initial fitting. IMG_3661 IMG_3750

Here are some tips to consider when going bespoke:

1.  The beauty of bespoke is there won’t be any other suit exactly like it, so make it reflect your personality and add unique details based on the end use and/or occasion.

2.  Arm length is key.  A good fit should show between half an inch to an inch of your shirt cuff.

3.  If it’s your first bespoke suit go for a versatile fabric.  A suit that can work for big meetings as well as weddings and formal occasions will be well worth the money and turn into a solid wardrobe staple.

4.  If it’s a day to day suit ensure you have enough room to move freely. While a slim cut creates a great silhouette, it won’t feel great when you’re on the move all day from meeting to meeting or even seated at your desk.  Look for some freedom and give yourself a little room to maneuver.

Stay tuned for Part Two – initial fitting and final result!

Cobble Hill Cool

estee pic

Just a simple look I wore to visit my favorite ‘blog-daughter’ in Cobble Hill, BK.  I’m loving Club Monaco this season, especially their dresses which are so easy to create an effortless look around.  Check out another favorite CM dress that’s been in heavy rotation here.  I also can’t seem to get enough of my trusty Rag & Bones, one of the best shoe investments I’ve made in terms of cost per wear although I have to admit that Estee has me thinking that sneakers may be the way to go.  Dare I try to pull off a pair of Jordans?!

Currently Obsessed Beauty – Paintbox NYC

I’ve been obsessed with nail art for some time, but I haven’t found a place to obsess over until now.  With NYC nail art prices upwards of $50 for a manicure (and that’s on the low end), unfortunately the salon environment has not evolved with the growth of the trend and rising prices.  Believe me I’ve tried all of the usual suspects and no one place has been consistent enough to command my loyalty but that all changed when I stepped into Paintbox.

Processed with VSCOcam with c2 preset

For starters the space is absolutely gorgeous, immaculately decorated, and spacious.  Paintbox has really cracked the code in terms of what the busy New Yorker is looking for in terms of style and convenience.  The salon curates editorial nail looks seasonally in order to develop a lookbook that covers off on the latest trends to inspire clients and help them decide on a design.  All designs can be done with traditional polish (they carry Chanel, Butter London, and Deborah Lippman to name a few); as well as long-lasting Gelish gel polish.

I’ve been to Paintbox twice and both times have had a great experience from start to finish.  My first manicure lasted 3 weeks and I could have easily gotten another week out of it!  The best part is that any gel design is $65 including tax!  No surprises and no charges for gel removal, design per nail, or for each individual color/decoration like you see at the other salons.  I highly suggest that you head over to paint-box.com and book an appointment ASAP.  You will not regret it.

Oh, and yes they do have a ‘mani-cam’.  Just one more thing to love…a complimentary picture snapped right after your service and emailed direct to you for sharing and uploading…the mani ‘selfie’ made easy :-)

The Kimono

My new favorite summer trend for 2014 is my Kimono. If you’re like me and you lean towards a boho chic style, the Kimono is the perfect accessory for day and night – whether with a LBD or distressed denim shorts and a tank.  For those who love their cardigans and denim/chambray shirts, the Kimono is a great addition or replacement.

The Kimono designs are bright, colorful and made with light material. I love my Kimono so much that I am already on the hunt for another one – as a bikini wrap for our upcoming vacation trips!

IMG_3782 IMG_3785 IMG_3797 IMG_3858   IMG_3838 IMG_3873 IMG_3876IMG_3903 IMG_3876I recently learned that the LBD has a seasonally on-trend cousin, aptly named the LBS. I love a good acronym almost as much as I love a Little Black Sundress. This is currently one of my favorite versions and the key selling point is how easily the LBS can transition from day to night. Case in point I spent this day exploring my new neighborhood and grabbing brunch with friends. We all know

Blue Mood

I’ll admit that I do tend to veer towards safe neutral colors when it comes to my wardrobe.  Black, white, and grey tend to be favorites because I know that I won’t hesitate to put them on and feel great no matter my mood.  Every now and then I’ll walk into a store and a bright tone will lure me in.  That was the case with this dress.  I literally walked into J.Crew and saw the dress out of the corner of my eye.  I grabbed my size and was in line purchasing it within minutes.  Sometimes you see something and you just know.  Anyway, I’m loving the look and foresee it being a wardrobe staple this season.  The dress is a clean silhouette that makes for a put together look that is extremely comfortable to wear.  The cool and breezy fabric is perfect for Summer and it gets bonus points for having pockets (a dress must in my book) making it all the more fun and easy to put on.

Welcome Summer…I’m ready for you!
